Arizona Pioneer's Home, Prescott Arizona

300 S. McCormick St, Prescott, AZ 86301

The Arizona Pioneer's Home is the last remaining fully federally subsidized retirement community in the country. It was established to care for the men and women who built Arizona, a recognition that the frontier owed its pioneers a debt.

Big-Nose Kate, Mary Katherine Horony, spent her final years here. A companion of Doc Holliday and one of the most colorful characters in Wild West history, she is buried on the grounds. Two stories converge at this building: the government's obligation to its pioneers, and the final chapter of a woman whose life reads like a novel.
